After spending last night in Melbourne and visiting the Gift Trade Fair we decided to visit the National Art Gallery and attend the Hermitage Exhibition that started two days ago.
Wowie....it was so worth doing.....having visited the Hermitage in St Petersberg, Russia two years ago we were eager to re-visit these masterpieces of Art.....collected by Catherine the Great from all around the world.....especially the Netherlands,Italy , China, France, Britain.....along with Russian Artworks.
I only had my IPAD with me today....so took these with permission.
It's amazing how large and intricate the frames were fron the 16th and 17th centuries.
I loved how the NGV have painted each of the rooms to replicate the walls in the Hermitage....same colours.
There were quite a few people visiting the Exhibition today.
This piece was from France so was the one below.
I thoroughly recommend attending this Exhibition if you are interested in Art.
This one above depicts the Russian's victory over Turkey....I just loved the lighting in this piece of artwork.
Also thought these children were pretty cute!
So we have had a great weekend....visiting the Trade Fair...I also attended a Photography Group.....learnt some tips and tricks for Night Photography and Street Art and finished off today with the National Gallery of Victoria visit....checking out the Hermitage Collection. Although Peter the Great started the Hermitage Collection....it was Catherine the Great who had a real love of artworks from around the world. She was the one who wanted the Hermitage to house the best artworks from around the world. She wanted to share these with the people.
